Sovann Komar enjoys a unique setup with ten family units living on our site. As the children grow up and enter their teenage years, we are working more closely with the parents and children themselves as we take steps towards their future. Consequently we are looking for individuals with great communication skills who enjoy spending time with people.
More About Village and Family Liaison Work
We would like volunteers to work with the families, parents and children in group and one-on-one settings. You should be able to offer training, workshops and support in the following areas:
- Education and studying
- Career planning
- Money management
- Sexual health
- Conflict resolution
- Stress management
- Healthy lifestyles
If you have a personal specialism, we also welcome this in addition to our current focus in the village.
Although all of our parents speak English and many of the older children have a high language proficiency too, volunteers seeking to work in this capacity should have strong communication skills, at least a basic understanding of Asian and Cambodian culture and also experience working with foster or adoptive families in the past. Training will be provided upon arrival in Cambodia and onsite translators and support is available if necessary.
Communication in an environment like Sovann Komar is very important. We pride ourselves on encouraging open, honest conversations between and within our families. Our community works best when everyone is communicating with one another in a respectful way. Our volunteers can help us to develop new techniques and introduce alternative tactics from their own culture to improve our work.

We request a minimum commitment of three months so our families and volunteers get the most out of the experience.
